Where in East Dulwich?

I cycle from South Kensington to near the Harvester avoiding big hills and you could definitely use that route in reverse from Battersea Park. In reverse, it would be via Brixton (via Dulwich Park, Burbage Road, Herne Hill, Railton Road but obviously that will change depending on where you are), along Stockwell Road, down South Lambeth Road and turn down Lansdowne Way, along Wandsworth Road and down Thessaly Road, then a busy stretch along Nine Elms to the roundabout near Battersea Park.

Hope that helps...

I personally enjoy cycling along the South Circular which takes you through Clapham Common and over Battersea Bridge into West Brompton. Afraid you do get a hill each way, but it will make you fit. Avoids the hell that is cycling in terrible traffic in Vauxhall. Despite being the South Circular, it's a stretch that is nice to cycle with plenty of road space. It saves cutting across central London.

Emilou - I cycle to Hammersmith regularly and always try new routes and the one you suggest is the quickest. Distance-wise it might not be the shortest but there are few lights along the embankment so you keep moving.

It's busy but there are lots of cycle lanes and I think it's safer than the back routes where cars are nipping in and out of junctions to beat the traffic. Vauxhall is fine - just take the pedestrian/cycle route under the train line rather than go round the ring road.

    • We’l be getting our annual building work done soon (roof ridge tiles redone and the chimney stacks repointed). Mrs Bob says she’ll liaise with the builders and that I should get out from the house so I don’t bother them with inanities. So I’ll be off camping to the Fort again for the Summer - June, July, August, whilst they get on with it. I’ll be in my Decathlon Arpenaz 4.1 fresh and black tent. I’ll have a campfire every Friday night like I usually do.
