I need to ship a painting which is framed and under glass to the States and as I have only had to ship canvases before I wondered if anyone can give me advice on:-

a) how to pack it safely as it will be fragile and

b) which courier services are best and not too expensive. The painting measures about 20" x 27" thanks for any tips!

There are professional shippers and packers out there, or get a carpenter to build you a case package and cut dense PU foam to fit nice and tight. Cover the glass with Tessa tape (there's one for glass that comes off with ease) before shipping.

Cover the outer with "Handle with Care" stickers and find a gentle handed courier firm. I'm sure UPS do a kid gloves service.

I shipped crated art from Thailand to LA using a US firm called Xpeditious. I had to purchase separate insurance. You would need to get it created. They are not specialist art couriers but there are specific firms who handle art - depends how much you want to spend tbh.

Good luck

    • Suppose it depends on how many Christmas cards from family and friends you’re waiting to receive. It’s been the Christmas period so surely give the post delivery service some leeway. Like Sue I’ve not posted off so many this year but some I still write letters to  e.g my late mum’s cousins and other family  but hey ho that’s something I do and enjoy.  I used to hand deliver Christmas cards to a lot of neighbours on my street but gave up this year as realised that most of them I don’t see or speak to and can only count on a few to call a true friend or neighbour.
    • Rose who used to run Grace and Favour has a wonderful shop called Butlers Emporium on george Street in Hastings You'll find it on instagram as butlersemporium3
    • And from what I remember, she eventually cut the tea shop for a similar  reason to chandelier.  Chariot style buggies
    • Oh yes, it could have been about there, I can't remember exactly. At one point there seemed to be a load of pizza places opening on NCR. I vaguely remember the one we used to use was put out of business by another one which opened. Wasn't Grace and Favour's food offering more of a tea shop at the back of the actual shop? If memory serves the owner, whose name escapes me now, was one of the earliest people I know to move to Hastings. Which must now be crammed with South East Londoners 🤣
