Minitoots
I need to ship a painting which is framed and under glass to the States and as I have only had to ship canvases before I wondered if anyone can give me advice on:-a) how to pack it safely as it will be fragile andb) which courier services are best and not too expensive. The painting measures about 20" x 27" thanks for any tips! Nigello
Why not look at the US Mail's website to find out how they'd do it, and cross ref with Royal Mail? Or ask the framer (or any framer nearby) how s/he would do it. Good luck. KidKruger
Isn't it worth just shipping the art with glass removed - then have new glass cut in USA ? Minitoots
That would certainly be easier but it was professionally framed with non reflective glass and the collector wants to receive it 'ready to hang' ... KidKruger
Oh I see, maybe a compromise can be agreed - given the practical logistics of shipping a sheet of glass several thousand miles ! Seabag
There are professional shippers and packers out there, or get a carpenter to build you a case package and cut dense PU foam to fit nice and tight. Cover the glass with Tessa tape (there's one for glass that comes off with ease) before shipping.Cover the outer with "Handle with Care" stickers and find a gentle handed courier firm. I'm sure UPS do a kid gloves service.https://www.shandhigson.co.uk/149-tesa-masking-tapes Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/161502-how-to-ship-a-painting-under-glass-to-usa/#findComment-1160846 Share on other sites
ali2007
I shipped crated art from Thailand to LA using a US firm called Xpeditious. I had to purchase separate insurance. You would need to get it created. They are not specialist art couriers but there are specific firms who handle art - depends how much you want to spend tbh.Good luck Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/161502-how-to-ship-a-painting-under-glass-to-usa/#findComment-1162615 Share on other sites
