My previous Macbook survived best part of a pint - take it apart as far as you feel confident you can reassemble, remove and wipe dry battery and RAM modules, wipe off anything sticky, leave a couple of days in as dry and dust-free an area as you have, reassemble and send up a quick prayer...

I knocked over a glass of water, some of which went onto my laptop keyboard, which then promptly went bzzzttt and died.

After speaking to a computer guy, he said just to leave it and wait for it dry out, which I did, and it eventually came back to life a couple of days later...

I spilled a glass of wine over my partner's laptop once. Cue flash, bang etc..

Was told by someone I took it to (not a shop) that it was not repairable so I bought partner a new laptop.

Gave old one away to someone else to fiddle about with, dismantle for spares etc.

Found out much later that it had made a miraculous recovery.

Don't give up!

ETA: My cynical mind says if you take it to Apple they will tell you you need a new one ....

Apple have a Repair Centre for all their products. Phones.. Macs.. i-Pads .. i-pods..

They are not likely to be cheap but you do get a 1 Year Warranty on the repair.

Foxy

Beware on line. There are some Phishing sites pretending to be Apple.

Thanks for the input everyone. That rice idea is found on various MAC forums I've looked at. MAC currently being fanned and has been for hours. Did try it a while ago and start up sounded normal, the Apple logo put in a brief appearance but that was all. Turned it off hoping more time might do the trick.

Tried the MAC last night and the log on screen did appear after the apple logo, but not for long. However it seems to me the battery is almost dead and recharging it didn't appear to have much effect, though maybe need to leave it longer. I don't know if this is good or bad news.

Anyone know an expert? I've tried to contact a Mark who had rave postings on the Forum some time ago and saw the reviews of Netquest. Don't know if the latter still does repairs.

Can't you try it off the mains?

Ring him up, I'm sure he still does...

I saw similar brief or intermittent signs of life in a laptop that had experienced a drink soaking, when I tried powering it up up every few months. I eventually had a go and managed to bring it back to full health, by giving the motherboard a gentle cleaning with cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol, concentrating on the bits where there seemed to be residues crossing the tracks.

    • It was you who  made it personal in the first place,  Jazzer. You said you didn't feel safe in the streets,  and you said you didn't go to Central London because you didn't feel safe there. So are you now saying that wasn't "personal"? "Fire from the hip." Another interesting choice of words 🙄 I'm not "demanding" anything! I asked you some perfectly reasonable questions in  response to your own statements. None of which you have answered. Never mind. It seems to be pointless having a discussion with you. It's long past my bedtime. I'm going to turn on my sleep app  and go to sleep 😴💤
    • Hi Forumites, This afternoon someone in a dark blue/black saloon car collided with my parked car on Thompson Road, SE22 9JR. I have a neighbour’s doorbell cam footage of the collision at 14:30 19/09/2025 but am unable to identify the registration plate. If anyone has footage of a car travelling down Thompson Road towards Crystal Palace Road at that time please PM me. Of course if the Perp would like to confess they can also PM me. Thankyou.
