Sales techniques!

This thread is about the sales techniques that goes on around us on a day to day basis.

* Buy one get one FREE! or.... BOGOF

* Cold calls - those damned calls from 5-30pm!

* We will provide 10% less on a like for like quote (you do the hard work)

* Fund raisers for charities - the final charity takes the cut of expenses - 10%?

* Loss leaders: Printer costs ?80 (result!), repeat cartridge ?60 - OMG!

* Estate Agents - no more said!

* Any more?

If you have any more, let the Toad know and I will add to the starter page!

Is it about them?

I don't understand what point, if any, you're making.

"Fund raisers for charities - the final charity takes the cut of expenses" - are you complaining about charities' administration costs? What is the "final" charity?

Have you considered, you know, communism?

Is it really true?

If your bike is stolen, pop up to Brick Lane the next day and you will find it for a good and decent price?

What if a known bike is worth ?500, but sold for ?100 - what should one do - insist on a receipt?

Loss Leader

A question into LBC Radio asked about a really cool priced printer of ?80, and its wireless - is this a good deal? The response was asked about the replacement cartridge cost, it will be close to the cost of the printer! This is whats known as a 'lost leader'.

Please comment on how you have been sold something indirectly - or on the front of it seems reasonable

The Toad

G'day RosieH,

If one pledges a ?1, how much goes to charities?

The big picture is that Admin and Marketing is hugely important to raise awareness and I fully support, but what is the breakdown on the ?1 donated? For example an 80 / 20 or more / less?

This thread is specifically broad to allow the Good / Bad & the Ugly to to reply.

    • Vans are restricted to one hour a day 8:30 to 9:30 and have to be pre-booked.  So long as you went with and were able to show the right ID then I doubt it would be an issue unless the builders van is emblazoned with their branding as businesses aren't allowed to use it.
    • Perhaps they would run into the issue that Lambeth had if they put it on the  Rye - maybe they would need planning permission for change of use if more than 28 days of permitted development are used up for all the other events plus this. So perhaps emphasising that the two areas are distinct from each other actually helps the council.
    • I think the council could make more of that too. Sell a ticketed event with a local celebrity turning the lights on, followed by a street party with christmas carols and a christmas pop song cover band.
    • When we had lots of rubble to dispose of, we hired a zip an and took it. Didn't have to pay, but they don't allow vans in Sundays from memory
