Nat' at Honda Riders

Yes, I am sorry to have to tell you that the wonderful Natalie sadly died whilst on holiday, a few months ago.

I had known her and her Dad Cyril as I had taken my motorcycles there for the 30 odd years since I have lived here. Her brother had died a few years ago. She was a wonderful character. I spoke at her funeral and spoke of her love for her job and how she could be seen sat down working on bikes with a spanner in one hand a perfect manicures on both. She had amazing patience with some of the kids who didn't always have the money they needed to get their brakes fixed and she was a wonderful role model.

I loved her.

I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news to any of you that knew her. It came as such a shock to everyone of course.

I'm so sorry to hear of this ! Natalie was the last of Cyril's children running Honda Riders and this is truly the end of an era. They were true bikers with kind hearts and great bike knowledge and real Peckham folk. There are hardly any family-run independent bike shops left especially in London and Honda Riders was one of the last. Natslie told me that she kept the shop as Cyril kept it to keep his memory alive. I loved it : a real bike shop ! I worry now that hipsters will take it over as yet another pointless coffee /bar boutique. R.I.P. Natalie.

    • Thanks Penguin. It could be a coincidence. But after years of road safety being on the local agenda they finally put the crossings in months before Dulwich Estates regain the lease on The Grove.   The Estate understands there is strong local interest in improving this area and we hope to be in a position to share some exciting updates in the near future. The temporary skatepark will remain unaffected. “Temporary skatepark” is telling.
    • Back to my earlier post about familiarity.  I was in Croydon this afternoon walking between the two main stations.  Didn't feel unsafe, but there were some 'interesting' characters on the street.  Not that any were bothered with me. Not a place I'd choose to go for a bit of a fun.  Although having said that West Croydon has some cracking restaurants and the wonderfully named Saints and Sinners bar, where I once went on a corporate do - not that I did many of these. Whoops just checked and it closed a few months ago. Back on track, I never went to the Castle as I felt it was a bit rough.  How wrong was I?  Only real pub left in the area.
    • Wow Sue! I was reading your post with interest as I’ve never really felt unsafe in London and I was born here. It was just your last paragraph that derailed me and totally changed the subject matter! So unnecessary.
