It's quite unfortunate IMHO if this is what you were led to believe. The problem with UK schools is not about immigration or refugees.

It's about systematic underfunding and poor management of central and local administrative systems.

Even without immigration/refugees, many school districts (London boroughs in particular) would be having problems with delivering enough student places. This is a complex problem, but the system is not being overwhelmed by immigrants/refugees. It's being underfunded by idiots. *Some* people might even speculate it's being purposefully undermined in order to force privatisation by the back door.

The UK is a wealthy country that could easily cope with refugees if schools were managed better. We're not being overwhelmed by folks moving to the UK. We're being undermined by homegrown numpties.

...speaking as someone with extensive experience of both US and UK education.

I do hope you find a solution. There seem to be many good homeschooling groups in South London, if that's the direction you end up taking. xx

Not just by Labour. All parties have been guilty of this, of using education and immigration as political footballs. Considering the times we live in, I personally find blaming education failings on refugees/immigrants to be one of the ugliest and yet understated examples of xenophobia.

I hope the OP has found a solution for her daughter's education. Unfortunately bigotry isn't something that can be altogether avoided, regardless of how you school your children, home, state, etc. But it is something we can all teach our children... to examine their own beliefs and challenge prejudice. xx

Kristina I suggest if you want to keep stuff private then you keep it off a public forum. Or you're saying you have a problem with people with mental health issues reading public posts on a public forum? It sounds suspiciously like you're using a public post to air a personal drama...

    • You don't need a gym to lose 10kg. Get a set of dumbbells and maybe a resistance band, find a HIIT channel you like on youtube and workout in your room, eat clean and go out every day. £115/mo is ridiculous. I thought they were supposed to be about £20 to £30 and most people give up come February anyway.
    • Point taken..I go 3-4 times a week and have done every week for several years however £115 a month is still a lot of money for many people (myself included) for a 'non essential' One can if one wishes excersise by running or Cycling, swimming once in a while. Gym membership IS a luxury...
    • Tawny owls are hooting in Dawsons Heights very near me. But very elusive birds. Sadly now on the amber list.  I have heard the owls every night for the past couple of weeks  It is good to know they are here. They are quite loud so I think they are very near. I have never seen an owl in the wild before and wish I  could  see them.
