VAT Inspection

I work at a small company, <10 staff. We're about to have a VAT inspection, interested to hear any advice or experiences anyone would be kind enough to offer.

I had VAT inspections when I had hair salons first time was nervous but they just checking everything is all in oedreralways very nice to me so do not worry

They'll just look through your accounts and make sure it's all in order - and your VAT returns are supported with the correct document - invoices, receipts etc.

So long as everything's in order you'll be fine.

I went through various VAT inspections at a previous firm. As Jules-and-Boo said make sure you have all Sales, Purchase Invoices and receipts handy, in tidy bundles and it always helps to find one particular point to ask them about, even if you know the answer. The Inspectors love to show off their knowledge over us poor Book-keepers.

We always sailed through our inspections and they were in and out in a couple of hours with reminders to get in touch if there was anything else we were not sure of. The offer of tea/coffee and a biscuit goes down well too.

Above all - don't let it worry you.
