After thinking my son had really very mild eczema and only behind his knees I have noticed him seeming more uncomfortable the past couple of days and trying to scratch at his knees and also behind the ears (although I see no eczema or redness there). His cheeks are also very red which could be teething or eczema.

Would like to hear from other parents who have been dealing with eczema especially as my son is now 6 months and transitioning to formula from breastmilk and obviously also trying solids. I am not sure what caused him to be more uncomfortable - could be anything from the formula, to the foods he has been eating to cat hair etc. I would like to prevent it getting worse. Already the skin behind one of his knees seems rather inflamed (very small area).

Trying to see the GP tomorrow. So far we have been using Oilatum bath and Diprobase cream but nothing else.

Is it worth trying to have an alergy test? He has had no dairy or gluten yet but he has been having formula for a few months now (it contains cows milk) although he only started taking a significant quantity for about a month. He has also had the usual 1 stage of weaning variety of fruit and veg as of 5 months (carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, bananas etc). I gave him a little chicken yesterday for the first time.

Can you tell I am freaking out a little bit?

We had the same and thought it was cows milk, intolerance to foods etc nad the doctor did some tests and said there was no obvious food group intolerances and prescribed junior oilatum, epaderm and .5% hydrocortisone cream. Since we started using all of the lotions and potions the eczema has disappeared BUT I also stopped using washing powder and fabric condioner in all of her washes and in our bed linen, and i think this is what has really made the difference.

So in the last 6 months (she is now 18 months) I have reduced the use of the oilatum and epaderm and stopped the hydrocortisone cream at least 4 months ago and the eczema hasnt come back. A couple of weeks ago I had run out of the washing liquid i use for her washing (Ecover) and so washed her stuff in our usual washing powder, she seemeed fine, then we noticed she was getting the eczema back at the weekend.

It could be totally coincidental that this has happened, but I don't think so!

Good luck, - its horrible to see them so uncorfortable!

warm weather over weekend caused red patched on backs of my baby's legs. I have ordered some Pure Potions balm - organic wonder cream. My friend's child had terrible eczema, steroid cream from GP etc - nothing worke except this. I used on my other child and it stopped a mild case getting any worse. Is worth trying.

Sorry should have been clearer:

Ecover non bio laundry liquid:

http://www.ecover.com/gb/en/Products/Laundry/Concentrated+Non-Biological+Laundry+Liquid.htm

but i think any liquid that can be easilly diluted in in the water (as opposed to powder) would be sufficient.

and no fabric conditioner at all (apparently fabric conditioner is really not good for the skin, it leaves something on the clothes which can be an irritant to skin?).

I did a fair bit of 'googling' at the time of my daughter's outbreak and after reading a few things thought it would be worth a go! There were a couple of articles about fabric conditioner!

    • Its a few years ago now, but I organised my end of year prom (for year 13) at Off the Cuff in Herne Hill - was on the cheaper side to rent and at that age, felt very cool and clubby. I had my own 18th at Whirled Cinema in Loughborough Junction but I'm not sure if they take event bookings like that anymore
    • You are right . It isn't going to change him for the better. Sending such a negative message is potentially counter-productive. Trump is narcissistic, arrogant, unpredictable, spiteful, divisive, and dishonest, with a penchant for a total a disregard for democratic norms.  He is one who bears a grudge so there's a case to be made for not offending him as he could react with a bunch of  adverse actions  such as  deciding to increase import tariffs on UK exports to the US.
    • Unless we don't fly I don't think we can be too critical of the authorities.
    • In 2016 London City Airport began using concentrated flight paths. When there's a predominantly westerly wind, incoming aircraft approach from East London (north of the River). When there's a predominantly Easterly wind, incoming aircraft approach the airport from the West: circling through Forest Hill, Dulwich, Vauxhall, Tower Hamlets, Docklands. This latter flight path affects many of us in South East London. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/london-city-airport-concentrated-flight-paths The planes going into City are often below 2,000 ft, so very noisy. Sometimes we have incoming Heathrow at the same time, flying higher. The early flights that I hear e.g. 04:30 are incoming to Heathrow. They are scheduled to land at 05:30 but are 'early'. Apparently the government allows a percentage of flights to arrive early and late (but these are now established as regular occurrences, informally part of the schedule). IMHO Londoners are getting very poor political representation on this issue. Incredible that if you want to complain about aircraft noise, you're supposed to contact the airport concerned! Preposterous and designed solely in favour of aviation expansion.
