Buying a bit of neighbour's garden - questions

Hi All - apologies if this is in the wrong section of the forum, but not sure where it should be placed...

My next door neighbour has mooted selling off a bit of her garden to us at chez quinnie. I realise that we would have to instruct land registry, but am unsure about other costs. Is this something that would necessiate instructing a solicitor (for us and neighbour), or is their work something we could do ourselves? Can anyone give me any indication of how much money (other than actual land price) might be involved??

you would both need solicitors, its one one those crazy things where the costs of doing it can be more than the value of it. There was a thread on this a while back, you could try searching for it somewhere here.
