Wedding dress alterations

I'm getting married in July 2018 and thinking of getting a dress in a sample sale, as I just can't face the thought of spending ?1000+ on a dress I'm only going to wear once...

I was wondering if anyone had done this, and if they had been able to get it altered ? Do you have any recommendations for good seamstresses in or around London ? What sort of price would I be looking at to get it altered (probably brought down a size or 2)?
