Cooking lessons in your own home

Hey, I?m a New Zealand born chef based in Crofton Park. I hold a diploma of Culinary Arts from Auckland University of Technology and a London City and Guilds Culinary Arts diploma. I?ve worked in the hotel and restaurant industry for the last ten years, in Auckland, Melbourne, Sydney, Edinburgh and London. I?ve also managed the kitchens of two meditation retreat centres, on in NSW, Australia, and one in California, USA, so I have a lot of experience in vegetarian, healthy cooking.

I?m new to this forum, and I?ve seen a few requests for cooking classes. I?ve recently taken a step back from working in kitchens, although I still love cooking and food, and I?m passionate about simple, healthy and easy cooking. I would love to help people find their confidence in the kitchen!

I?m posting here to see if there is any interest for cooking lessons in your own kitchen? What I propose is an initial phone conversation and/or email conversation, so I can gain insights into your likes and dislikes, allergies, (or other dietary information) and any cuisines or dishes you would like to learn in particular. I could then email over a list of shopping ingredients (with recommendations of which product in particular is the best quality). Then, on the chosen day, once you have purchased the ingredients, I could come around to your house and help you cook lunch or dinner for your family, teaching you skills and techniques as we go. (I could then disappear, so you could take all the credit?)

This could also work if you were thinking about hiring a chef for a special occasion, but want to learn how to do it yourself for next time, or if you wanted to have a fun cooking lesson with your children!

I?m imagining each initial consultation to take around 30 minutes, and each session to last about three hours, with the option to go longer or shorter, depending on what you chose to cook, with the whole package costing about ?80.

So for starters, is this something that people would be interested in? If yes, please get in touch! My email address is [email protected]. As I mentioned, this is an entirely new concept for me, so if you have any advice, if you think the price is too high or too low, or if you have any general feedback, please let me know also!

    • It’s good we are having this discussion. My point of view is that we are definitely witnessing an attempt at genocide in Palestine, the right wing of the Israeli government have some awful views, some of the language representing the worse of humanity.  Jewishness should not be conflated with Israel or Zionism, I see that has been the case for some of the comments in this thread. Conflating the actions of a Zionist Israeli Government with Jewish people is actually considered antisemitism and is a very dangerous way of thinking, leading to Jewish people in the UK feeling unsafe.    Support peace and march today, I have been many times and met some lovely people.  It’s a long read, but if any of you are interested in how early Israeli settlers from Europe viewed Arab-Jews and the consequences do have a read.  https://www.vox.com/world-politics/24122304/israel-hamas-war-gaza-palestine-arab-jews-mizrahi-solidarity
