Hello everyone

we have a soon to be 9 year old boy and a 6 year old girl (and a dad who is probably more keen!)

We have been thinking of getting a console... is it madness? Is it too soon?

At the moment they only watch about 30 mins of tv or Ipad games a day max. And I will still carry on with this rule.

If you have experience of any of these, which would you recommend?

I know absolutely nothing. I know my son is into Minecraft and football. My daughter does colouring and music games.

Thank you

Hi - we have a ps4 which our 8 and 6 yr olds play on. Only at weekends and mine craft and fifa are two of the games they have. I?m sure we only use a fraction of what the console can do - no online stuff etc, but managed to get it free (ish) when my husband realised he had a lifetime of nectar points he had never cashed in!!

The one thing that I find annoying is that a lot of the games my eldest wants - like some of the Star Wars games, are rated 16. He also likes Knack, which is a 7, but a lot of the more interesting games are for older kids. Other than that I have no clue about any of the consoles. We are not nearly as strict about screen time and they will spend more than half an hour on that and tv/Ipad at the weekends.

Hi Bee74

We are selling an Xbox 360, controllers, driving wheel etc plus a load of kids games if you are interested (post in 'Items for sale' thread)

My son got it when he was about 9 and has since upgraded to another Xbox.

I find it's like any screen, you decide as a family what is acceptable for you and then set the limits from there.

Good luck!

    • Hi Sue, they were not local solicitors. Andrea’s was based in Wales and the other firms involved were large nationwide conveyancing companies (rather than conventional high street solicitors). I’m happy to advise clients and buyers privately on what I believe to be their shortcomings but I don’t think doing so in public on the forum would be appropriate, particularly as they are not locally based. My general advice would always be to steer clear of the big conveyancing companies as they are, in my experience, notoriously difficult to contact when the need arises and the case handler is often not a fully qualified solicitor and so issues have to be referred upwards to “technical teams” internally, which was part of the problem in Andrea’s chain. • A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post… Hi everyone, I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well). But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again. Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet. So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces. I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!  I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.  If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.  Cheers all! 👋
    • It's Inner London. You could move somewhere else?
    • They are people.  That's how people often behave.
