Emily Mackenzie
We have a small hole at the back of the garden next to the fence. The foxes seem to like it / lurk around that area. Yesterday I saw a rat run out of it. Our dog also goes crazy / barks when he is near the hole. Does anyone have any advice or pest control recommendations? Thanks so much Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/172604-rats-and-foxeshelp/ Share on other sites
DulwichFox
Rats are often solitary creatures. Foxes will sort out the Rat(s). Foxes are not Pests. Not a job for pest control. Gaynor Hill
HiFoxes eat rats and mice so I would not worry about them and they might just go away themselves Rats are a problem in London if there are a lot then you need to get in experts but if seeing the just one I would leave it up to foxes to sort it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/172604-rats-and-foxeshelp/#findComment-1191169 Share on other sites
AlexJubille
Yes, indeed, but rats and mice are a problem not only in London, but in across the country too. And I'm being relatively serious about that. We often get small holes at the boundary of the garden, and if you leave them a rat hole becomes a cat hole becomes a fox hole and then the edge of the garden gives way, so I fill them with roofing slates or bricks and usually whatever it was goes off to annoy someone else. lauracg
Given the circumstance consider yourself lucky you have foxes around. Rats are a serious health hazard so much that council pest control service is free of charge for private homes and gardens infested by rats.Check Lewisham or Soutwark council webpages for Rats pest control service.https://www.lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/environment/pestcontrol/Pages/Rats.aspx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/172604-rats-and-foxeshelp/#findComment-1191325 Share on other sites
Gardenman
Hi. If you want the foxes & the rats to go away humanely, just use a string chilli sauce around your boundaries & near the hole. They have a very strong sense of smell & this will deter them. You will need to keep applying this especially when it rains. Good luckNigel Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/172604-rats-and-foxeshelp/#findComment-1191387 Share on other sites
