Yep, I've hidden them amongst the bags of runner beans and apples :))

Sue, any 'check your change' alert should be about the Coop - over a 3 year period, this has happened to me three times, with three different staff, one still there, two not. This was for cashback : change given/

card removed, receipt, cash back? blank stares. Exasperating.

In the summer I witnessed this happen to a lady at the next till, handed her receipt and change but no requested cash

and an altercation ensued. As she pointed out, it was a good thing she hadn't left the shop before she realised.

The ?10/?5 happens regularly, as it did last week in a very reputable shop on LL, quickly rectified.

Poor concentration is the enemy at the till, staff or customer.

Sue, You seem to be unlucky with your change

Maybe I appear to be unlucky because I check it.

I'm guessing most people don't.

You are probably right...

I am always amazed the number of people that do not get a receipt in the pub even when asked if they would like one.

They just hand over their card and pay.. No Receipt

Then 2-3 weeks later they get their card Bill. They have NO idea what they have spent.

8 Jaeger Bombs ?36 - ?40 ?? they have no recollection of even buying them whilst P***ed three weeks earlier.

Plus things on their bill they may not of purchased.

Foxy.

  • 3 months later...

It happened again in Londis this afternoon.

I handed over ten pounds.

There was a bit of chat about the lottery (the previous customer had just bought a ticket).

Five pounds rung up on the till and change for five pounds given.

I pointed out I had given ten pounds. There was a bit of kerfuffle and then "Oh yes, sorry" and another five pounds handed over.

Be careful out there, people. Mistakes are easily made, so check your change.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
