Fidgetsmum
I've recently had a throat infection which wouldn't budge and was eventually prescribed 250mg amoxycillin. 3 days after I finished the course, I got it back again with a vengeance (plus full on flu symptoms) and was then prescribed 500mg amoxycillin. I'm exclusively bf my son who has just turned 5 months. The stronger antibiotics gave me a 'bad tummy' and since I took them, my son has also seemed to have worse wind and general tummy ache (no other symptoms like d&v though).I've finished the course now and my tummy is better, but he isn't.Anything I can do/take/give to help his tummy? Or is it not that, and perhaps the jabs or something else... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17495-antibiotics/ Share on other sites
Fuschia
Yakult? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/17495-antibiotics/#findComment-439718 Share on other sites
Fidgetsmum
Hi Fuschia - that's a good idea for me, but I wasn't sure about giving it to him as he's only ever had breast milk (I'm ultra sensitive about it as my daughter had a cow's milk protein allergy).I'm sure I read somewhere about a homeopathic remedy I could give directly to him (I don't actually subscribe to homeopathy at all, but I'll try anything to make him feel better!) Saffron
What about probiotic casules? It's the same stuff as in Yakult type drinks, just concentrated in a capsule. You could try mixing it with a little apple juice maybe (to avoid formula/dairy). Fidgetsmum
Ah Saffron I think that's what I'd heard about. Any idea where I can purchase them? I'm guessing maybe health matters on LL? hellosailor
Health matters sell a powder for this called Bifidobacterium Infantis made by BioCare which is specially formulated for infants. You put a quarter of a tea spoon of the powder into their mouths with every feed if breastfeeding. I used it after having to take various antibiotics for 3 weeks while breastfeeding and worrying about baby sailor getting thrush or digestive probs. It's not cheap - looking at my bottle here it's ?26:15 but worth it if it helps! Fidgetsmum
Thanks everyone. That powder hellosailor is the one I had in the back of my memory. But I'd forgotten how expensive it was (we'd bought it for my daughter three years ago but never used it! What a waste!)
