I've recently had a throat infection which wouldn't budge and was eventually prescribed 250mg amoxycillin. 3 days after I finished the course, I got it back again with a vengeance (plus full on flu symptoms) and was then prescribed 500mg amoxycillin. I'm exclusively bf my son who has just turned 5 months. The stronger antibiotics gave me a 'bad tummy' and since I took them, my son has also seemed to have worse wind and general tummy ache (no other symptoms like d&v though).

I've finished the course now and my tummy is better, but he isn't.

Anything I can do/take/give to help his tummy? Or is it not that, and perhaps the jabs or something else...

Hi Fuschia - that's a good idea for me, but I wasn't sure about giving it to him as he's only ever had breast milk (I'm ultra sensitive about it as my daughter had a cow's milk protein allergy).

I'm sure I read somewhere about a homeopathic remedy I could give directly to him (I don't actually subscribe to homeopathy at all, but I'll try anything to make him feel better!)

Health matters sell a powder for this called Bifidobacterium Infantis made by BioCare which is specially formulated for infants. You put a quarter of a tea spoon of the powder into their mouths with every feed if breastfeeding. I used it after having to take various antibiotics for 3 weeks while breastfeeding and worrying about baby sailor getting thrush or digestive probs.

It's not cheap - looking at my bottle here it's ?26:15 but worth it if it helps!

    • A new roadmap (surely railmap?!) for rail accessibility has been published: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/accessible-railways-roadmap It says "approximately 56% of stations and around 66% of the 1.3 billion journeys that take place on the network have step-free access to platforms...  "£373 million has been committed over the next 5 years to deliver Access for All projects, providing step-free access from station entrances to and between platforms, alongside other essential accessibility upgrades. These works, together, will increase the number of step-free stations across Great Britain from 56% to 58%. "This improvement will make travel easier with step-free access available at stations covering an increased share of total rail journeys – from 66% up to 71%" Don't know what that means for us here: upgrading Peckham Rye would cover a lot of rail journeys but the cost has no doubt increased from the £40m figure previously quoted. So that would eat into a lot of the funding.

    • I would recommend the Dulwich Test and Service centre that used to be in Hindemanns road and then moved to the little Trading Estate off Tyrrel Road. I've used them very happily for nearly 40 years. Paul and Reg Shires.
