Baby number 2 has been breech for a while. Following a trip to MAU this week for something unrelated it transpired he is now transverse and seems to be quite happily staying this way for now!?

I will be 36 weeks on Friday and understand this is the point all options are discussed. Just to prep myself (and my wonderful family who have gone to great lengths to arrange come down for 2.5 weeks in mid July to help with son no.1), when might they do an ECV and if this isn't successful a c section??

I'm not sure if it's relevant but my first was 8 days late but arrived in just under 3 hours pretty much in the car park.

Thanks

Px

I was admitted at 38 weeks when my baby was temporarily transverse. He changed back to head down on the first day in hospital but they kept me in for 3 nights as I was so far gone. And if he hadn't changed back then they were talking about me having to stay in til 39 weeks and have a section... When I was discharged I was told that if my waters broke I had to get into the Muslim prayer position and call my midwives straight away. In the end he turned up 17 (42+3) days late after a failed induction and EMCS! All worth it though! Hope bubs gets into a good position asap! x

Thanks B. It hadn't really occurred to me they might take me in and keep me there to monitor me!

It's childcare for son no.1 that's stressing me (oh and the fact we're moving out of our house before baby and into our new one after baby). I know my parents will try and drop everything to come from Wales to help but as they both still work it's not quite as straightforward as it could be. If we can be a teeny bit organised and anticipate all eventualities it will help a bit.

Oh I can imagine childcare issues - so different with number two I bet. Also wondering if they wouldn't be so reactionary with a second baby - think a lot of the response I had was due to him being my first. Fingers crossed for you and hope your arrangements get sorted.

I'm in the totally same boat; sort of. Baby has been transverse since 22wks, apart from when she was oblique for a week or so. Both and I my consultant arenot confident that an ecv will work and my first c/s was only 17mo ago; scar still hurts like anything sometimes. I have opted for a repeat c/s because of the logistics involved re: childcare. If I hadn't have gone ahead and had said "okay, shows over, no VBAC" at 32wks, I would have been closely monitored from 35 wks + and if she hadn't turned by 37wks, I'd have been booked in for my CS at 38+5 like I have been this time.

Do feel free to PM me if you need anymore advice/anecdecta about it all!

Also from what I gather, and I may be very wrong, ecv is not usually done for transverse more commonly breech/oblique. Fuschia had a transverse/breech bub who DID turn though, so don't lose heart. Have the MWs told you what to do f your waters break/contractions start and the baby's presentation isn't certain? (in my case, Check te colour of the water and get to kings asap for an assesment)
I was definitely told the Muslim prayer position - bum higher than head - to prevent threat of cord prolapse and stay there til midwives arrived. I had visions of this happening in a crowded ED shop like Celestial whilst wearing a sundress and it all being a bit embarrassing!!

Yes my latest was transverse for ages - I guess there wS space as I had twins previously

They put the fear of god into me saying I would need to be admitted

I had an ecv, he was breech and easily turned and stayed head down

I cNt remember if they were going to try to turn him from transverse though you could check my postings fr

Nov 2010

Exactly when you would get admitted depends on the diff drs I think

Who are you under?

I saw Christine neillands who did me a turning yransverse bBy mp3 track and I had acupuncture

As the bBy grows and space runs out most of them turn .. O checked the % it is very high

Thanks Ruth. Weird our childbirthing lives are still mirroring each other after our firsts being born just days apart too!

I feel as though I haven't seen my midwives for weeks (will be 5 in fact when I see them this Friday). It was only due to a bit of a scare that I found myself up at MAU one evening and they told me he'd turned from breech as he was 3 weeks ago to transverse which I've suspected for a while.

As my first labour was so fast I am a bit concerned as to what we'll do if it all starts early but the plan was always homebirth or an ambulance dash to King's. I guess now it's the ambulance no question. I'm not against a c section at all and to a certain degree knowing the timing will be a godsend!

Snap, seeing my MWs Friday too. All these coincidences are freaking me out ;) I think if you'd prefer an elective c/s rather than uhming and ahing and waiting whilst attempting to turn baby, you could ask about that and they'd talk about booking you in. Not to sway you at all and obviously c/s are not without their own risks and should be taken into serious consideration; just if you didn't want to leave it until the eleventh hour (like moi).

    • Thank you, Pugwash. That's really useful information. Do you know who was responsible for the locks and keys, or which council department? Could you PM me if you don't want to put someone's personal details on here?  It may save me having to speak to Monica. Thanks.
    • Does anybody know why? Trees aren't cut down for no reason. There must have been something wrong with it (I hope that was the reason). A child was recently killed and another one injured when a tree fell in a park (not in this area). It isn't always obvious from the outside when a tree is diseased or whatever, and I imagine the council would give safety considerations priority when deciding what to do, if there was any doubt at all.
    • It looks like they have cut it down completely now 😭
    • Different people will be  involved within Thames Water. The people dealing with the leaks aren't the people encouraging less water usage. How many people have reported the Barry Road leak? By what channels? What response have they had? When we had a leak in our road which meant we had no water, several people reported it, there was good communication with TW, they explained why they couldn't come out immediately (other urgent jobs elsewhere in the area) , kept  in touch with us and fixed the leak within a reasonable timescale (hours). Someone from TW also contacted me later to make sure my water was back. But does Thames Water know about it? They aren't psychic (I presume). If nobody reports it, I also presume they won't even know the leaks are  there, unless they have some kind of central monitoring system which tells them when there are leaks in the system. To make it clear, I am not defending Thames Water as a company, which I think should never have been privatised.  But there are some things they can't be blamed for (old and disintegrating water pipe system in London) and some they can (possibly, lack of sufficient staff to deal with leaks, maybe due to trying to save money to give their shareholders more. But this is just surmise on my part - I know nothing about Thames Water).
