Always, but always, listen to that inner voice, that 'instinct' if you like has saved my bacon more times than I care to remember..

Well, depends on what you're selling.

I mean, meeting someone in a local coffee shop with a wardrobe on a trolly might seem a bit weird all round.

If you're selling a laptop, then it looks a bit moody trying to sell it in the same way. I can see both sides however, is it not possible to get a friend to come over to yours when the buyer is expected ?

If not, there are professional vendors who will sell items for you on e-bay ect.

As Jeremy says....

"Your house, your rules"

Nette

it's a mobile phone.

I once sold a netbook via EDF. I met the guy in a local pub at his suggestion and he was absolutely great. I showed him the receipt for the netbook and everything went just great.

Doesn't make any difference if a friend can come around while she sells the phone Annette, as soon as the friend has gone, seller is all alone in a house where the stranger knows not only the address, but also some of the layout! It may sound overly cautious and believe me I am not a scaremonger but if the seller felt uneasy it was for a reason..

I've never felt worried about someone coming round to my house when I sell or give stuff to people and I've never had any problems. It has never occurred to me to be worried.

Maybe because I've got quite a scary looking dog! I did martial arts for years when I was young too, so maybe that helps.

I would think that someone was dodgy though if they wanted to meet in a pub or coffee shop to sell something.

It's a fine balance... I am sure some of us menfolk would be happy to come round and play boyfriend (not literally) to any forumite damsel in distress who was looking to sell some goods to non-regulars. But then, how do you know you can trust us lot. Oh dear, what seemed like a genuine offer of help suddenly has me digging a hole for myself..
