Railway closures are often like buses - you get none and then you get a year or so where they come along every month or so. It's not entirely surprising given that if they're replacing sleepers/rails, there's a limit to how much they can do in an overnight period and presumably the entire line needs checked to avoid emergencies. But with capacity as it is during the week with us demanding earlier/later trains, the overnight window has got shorter and shorter. The RR buses did seem to be running pretty frequently though so although it's a bit longer, at least people could get places.

Anyone who keeps a car just for the one weekend in x that the trains are running would be nuts though. By the time you covered insurance/maintenance for the weekends the trains were running, you'd be cheaper getting a cab wherever you wanted on that weekend.

    • No. I'm just genuinely interested to know why you continue to live in a place which you consider to be "lawless", and where you don't feel safe. Interesting turn of phrase, though, given your views of East Dulwich and Central London, "all guns blazing".
    • I feel safe.  I've suffered my own share of crime in London, and also elsewhere in the UK and world.  But I still feel safe  For those giving personal rather than objective cures about crime, and speculating, I suggest that you attend your SNT meeting.
    • WoW Sue, all guns blazing.
    • So you don't feel safe in London, but you don't want to live elsewhere? What do you do, barricade yourself in your home and never venture out? I have my eyes (sic)  open. Yes there is crime in London. That doesn't make London "lawless".
