I was joking but somebody's beaten me to the idea

https://www.newstatesman.com/science-tech/technology/2018/02/quiet-and-creeping-normalisation-facial-recognition-technology

"In August 2017, the Metropolitan Police used facial recognition software at Notting Hill carnival. The practice saw the police scanning the faces of thousands of carnival-goers to see if any matched with photos of people who had previously been arrested"

There are in fact people with extraordinary facial recognition skills who are employed by police and security forces - they can often match or beat computer driven facial recognition technology (which requires matching the angles and distances of key facial points against a database.) This technology is what is used in passport scanning applications - where your face is matched against the stored data on your photograph. The computer is comparing points, distances and angles, not the whole photograph. There are no such databases held on dogs.

@Penguin68 they are called SuperRecognisers. There was an online test and I scored very highly to my amazement.

The Council can not afford CCTV; rather they would prefer to hand the management of parks to "Friends of...." organisations. It's a good rumour though.

I also heard that the Council are thinking of spending millions to change their logo from the friendly handwritten style they have now, to a ComicSans style.

Apples version is quite complex and seems to use multiple technologies and quite a bit of software :)

I work at a well known department store (and crime hotspot) and we have a few working for us. The met often call us up for certain occasions (protest marches, big sporting events) to borrow them.

I need something memorable to happen to remember a face or I forget. I had real hopes for this tech in google glass etc.

    • Hello.   Thanks Nigel and Hparker 😀   I've got new slots available for new students looking for a piano teacher or guitar teacher.   You could start in the new term beginning September, or I'm also available adhoc-styles through the summer holidays at times.   I teach all ages, in most styles, in lots of different ways according to how you learn/like to learn.   Give me a call or text on 07730 402336.   I have connections to lots of performance opportunities/networks too.   I run regular events /student concerts, and play in bands/perform.   Natalie.
    • So do I, but I think they are in trouble as well.  Anyway, that space wouldn't be big enough.
    • I'm not talking about Starmer. I was responding to a post which  said that  Corbyn was unelectable. How people voted in the "more hotly contested election" is irrelevant. Corbyn wasn't leading the Labour Party then. Starmer was. And the turnout for Labour reflects that.
