Is the Co-Op closing down?

Is the co-op closing down? Looks like very little new stock for a long time. They're blaming IT issues but it feels more like the kind of excuse shops use when they 'close for refurbishment' never to reopen again. In addition, the Tooting one, I hear, closed down recently.

I popped in this afternoon it Resembled a Post War Soviet store.

Bare Shelves.. Empty Freezers, No staff

Was day 2 (at least) of the Bucharest-circa-'84 look. That place is a shambles. The staff are OK but the management = sheesh. Aircon blasting out on the coldest of days; slimey produce in the expiry-due area; fridge cabinet doors that never lock (because they are left like that to help staff load them more easily). I love the CoOp as an ideal and would like it to thrive but the examples we have in SE22 are not good ones.

I spoke to them yesterday they said they are not closing down that they were closing for a refit of the store

That store has pole position on LL so would be interesting to see who might be interested. Too big for a Waitrose local maybe? And with M&S now present too? So sad that the CoOp there is so rubbish in many ways as so many people are supporters of their concept and history.

That's the classic line! They had a refit not long ago. Has to be shutting. I give it until the end of March.

Much as I really really want to support the CoOp, their current offerings on Lordship Lane are terrible.

And sadly it isn't just that store, as I went to one in Oxford recently and that was terrible too.

Where are they getting their fruit and veg from? The quality is appalling :(

yes, its awfull! I've tried several times just buy a Lavazza coffee powder and had the same impression..not at all in the shelves and of course, no coffee..it's a shame, should inform the customers go there wasting time!

It will take more than a "major renovation" to make the Lordship Lane store viable, surely?

After the last renovation, they were giving out five pound (if memory serves) vouchers one Saturday in Lordship Lane, and telling people there were lots of "new lines" to spend them on.

We could see nothing new at all, though grateful for the unexpected dosh obvs, and since then things seem to have just plummeted (sp?) downhill.

It needs more efficient management, proper stock control, more competitive pricing and better quality fresh goods.

Those issues won't be covered by "renovation", will they?

I hardly go there any more, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

M&S sometimes has lots of empty shelves and I can't get what I want, especially at the weekend, but at least on the whole they have good quality food which is keenly priced.

Had a chat with one of the Store employees yesterday..

He said East Dulwich Store not closing and new delivery on Monday. (today)

How come the LL store gets its umpteenth refit in 6 years, and yet the Forest Hill Road store is allowed to look like a knock off copy cat co-op and go without! Nigello??
