sociable cycle ride Saturday March 24th

Recommended Posts

After the ride last Saturday when it snowed, the forecast for next Saturday is considerably better. This one starts 10am from Peckham Square which is the space between Peckham Pulse (the pool) and Peckham Library (SE15 5JR. Finish is two hours later in the same place.

The ride is called Four Parks and a Prison and that's a good description. Harry will be leading and it's the usual sociable easy paced ride which makes you that bit healthier but doesn't hurt. Flat :)

The ride goes out via Burgess Park; newly-filtered Brook Drive; Archbishops Park; Lambeth Walk; Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens; crossing the river at Vauxhall Bridge to take a look at the Tate Britain which is built on the site of the old Millbank prison. More info here: http://www.tate.org.uk/context-comment/blogs/tate-britain-there-was-dreaded-millbank-prison

Back to Vauxhall Park to visit to model village http://www.guidedwalksinlondon.co.uk/blog/read_114431/londons-only-model-village-a-charming-surprise-in-vauxhall-park.html; and ending with Kennington Park before returning to Peckham Square.

There is more information, plus photos, here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/four-parks-and-a-prison-healthy-ride-march-25th/ from a previous ride. The round distance is about 10.2 miles and the route map is here: http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/2069387975/

This is one of a year-round series of Saturday rides organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists who are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. The LCC campaigns for safer cycling in London and who can say fairer than that. Everything we do is free and everyone is welcome. You don't have to join anything or live in Southwark though it is a good idea to live somewhere. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk

    • I would leave London, or at a push move back to north London. In SE London if you want to get away in a car you are trapped, always an hour to go the first 10 miles, chugging up to the M4 or round the south circular, which is really just a line someone drew connecting a load of roads. and I know there are trains but first you have to get to those mainline stations, unless you only want to leave London to go to Kent. which I don't.
    • It was you who  made it personal in the first place,  Jazzer. You said you didn't feel safe in the streets,  and you said you didn't go to Central London because you didn't feel safe there. So are you now saying that wasn't "personal"? "Fire from the hip." Another interesting choice of words 🙄 I'm not "demanding" anything! I asked you some perfectly reasonable questions in  response to your own statements. None of which you have answered. Never mind. It seems to be pointless having a discussion with you. It's long past my bedtime. I'm going to turn on my sleep app  and go to sleep 😴💤
    • Hi Forumites, This afternoon someone in a dark blue/black saloon car collided with my parked car on Thompson Road, SE22 9JR. I have a neighbour’s doorbell cam footage of the collision at 14:30 19/09/2025 but am unable to identify the registration plate. If anyone has footage of a car travelling down Thompson Road towards Crystal Palace Road at that time please PM me. Of course if the Perp would like to confess they can also PM me. Thankyou.
    • Fireworks again tonight, Melbourne Grove North LTN area.
