Bell House Talks: Lost & Found! Celebrating Dyslexia, March 27th 7-9pm

Recommended Posts

Bell House is a charity that supports wider education with a particular focus on dyslexia support. On Tuesday, March 27th from 7-9pm, Bell House will host a talk that will give an entirely positive, and very personal, view of dyslexia and how to make the most of the funkiness that it brings our lives.

This talk will cover:

- A range of easy, low-tech tools that help dyslexic children to organise their ideas.

- How rhythm can support attention, memory, language, music practice, and typing.

- Techniques for supporting learning in the classroom and at home.

Rhythm is a very important part of skill development in all aspects of life, but in developing self-expression and self-regulation, rhythm has a special role to play in drama, music, dance and sport.

This is an epic journey of being lost and then found. The greatest gift we can give our children with dyslexia is to support their journey as they find themselves, and become extraordinary.

About the speaker:

Marion began her career as a professional performing musician, but quickly became fascinated by the way that children with learning difficulties were drawn to classical music. She was appointed to the part-time role of SENCo at an independent school in Bedford and here, she discovered an incredible array of manifestations of dyslexia, as well as the extraordinary creativity of the pupils.

Now, Marion supports local children with dyslexia and provides training in schools via Rhythm for Reading (www.rhythmforreading.com). The programme achieves an average gain of twenty months in reading comprehension after ten weekly sessions of ten minutes.

    • Thanks for these responses. Yes, Cllr Browning & Cllr Hartley did a door-knocking exercise a couple of months ago. It was Maggie Browning who knocked and I told her that I'd had radio silence from Jon Hartley. She looked embarrassed but not surprised. I have spoken to him since, only after writting to Ellie Reeves, our MP about it his lack of response. He agreed to address the issue I asked about but I've not heard from him since. It's really not acceptable for an elected Councillor to consistently ignore his ward constituents. Since it's clearly not a one-off, I'm gonna pick this up formally. I'll let you know how I get on...
    • If memory serves, Labour under Corbyn got more electoral  votes than Labour under Starmer. So I'm not sure how you can call that being "unelectable"? Under a different and fairer electoral system Labour would have won. I see moves are afoot to bring in such a different, fairer system, presumably in the hopes of stopping Reform winning next time. BTW there was a mass exodus from Labour  by  the local (East Dulwich) Labour party members when Corbyn was kicked out by Starmer. It isn't just Islington who doesn't want to support  a right or centre right Labour party.
    • Is this the new shop next to Dulwich Tandoori? is it actually open and if so has anyone tried them.
    • It was The Brickhouse - we liked them and it was very sad when they had to close
