Crystal, I gave had mastitis maybe 10 tunes over the years (4 kids) and Only needed Ntibiitics twice though One of those was a humdinger of an abcess. IME, Sntibiotics are def necessary if a lump starts to weep and gets infected that way

For me, other lumps and flu symptoms resolved with lots of feeding/boiling showers/nurofen

I think you might be wise to get a prescription before you go away, just in case

Perhaps call seldoc now and see if somebody can pick up the prescription for you? They might prescribe after a phone consult

Can you freeze the milk to use when weaning? In ice cube trays?

Thanks Fuschia. Was hoping you'd reply. Will give Seldoc a call. Had no idea they might prescribe on the phone. Baby is doing a sterling job, can't believe I'm saying this but hopefully he'll continue into the night! Don't worry wouldn't chuck the milk away. At some stage I'll try bottle or cup or use it for weaning. Thanks again.

I'd get a prescription just in case as well if possible. Mastitis cleared up for me within 48 hours of antibiotics but you don't want to be stuck with it getting worse over xmas. What about that walk in place in Peckham?

Can you see any redness on the outside? In A&E they took that as quite a strong indicator that it was mastitis. Mine was a very obvious red patch with a very distinct outline with the white skin next to it.

Good luck. It will probably clear up itself. Remember to try and feed with baby's chin on the affected bit, upside down if necessary xxxx

The first time I got given antibiotics for mastitis, it was after a late night call to seldoc

Whether they want to see you depends how certain they are that it's mastitis i suppose.. I suspect if you call and say you'd like an antibiotic prescribed to have to hand, and you would find it hard ti get into seldoc yourself tonight, they might well oblige. Worth a try!

Try to resist the urge to squeeze the lump. I think me fiddling with the lump i got that was a bit weepy, probably helped a terrible infection take hold :-(

Silly me.

Oww, i do feel for you. Hopefully a night of enthusiastic feeding will help to sort it out.

I have always been really probe to the feverish sort of mastitis.. esp with the twins if they missed feeds.

Thanks again anna and fuschia. Felt worse this morning so got appointment at Seldoc. I have some antibiotics- amoxicillin so lookingt at the above comments is worrying me a bit. Will keep an eye on the lump and make another appointment if it hasn't completely gone by the time I've finished the course. I'm feeding as much as baby will let me, haveing hot showers an taking ibuprofen. Fingers crossed and Merry Christmas!

    • If someone comes to my house and bangs my door and slams my gate, I'd speak to them about it nicely and ask if they would please not do that. And then subsequently less nicely if they keep doing it, ending in reporting them.  We don't slam doors at home and I don't put up with that either. I can see us moving to a culture where we bribe drivers to be nice by tipping them, but we shouldn't have to. It's not necessary - does not matter if they are on minimum wage or not, or if society means that delivery services are outsourced or whatever reason anyone would like to concoct.
    • We’ve got a gap on the roof of our shed that needs patching  don’t want to buy a huge roll so hoping someone has some leftover  happy to collect/reimburse
    • I never said I thought it was targeted or deliberate. There also has never been a “stand off” or confrontation, we’ve spoken to them in a friendly manner about it. Our experience is they don’t seem to care. That’s the frustrating thing for us, if someone politely raises a concern at least take a second to reflect. Treat others how you would want to be treated.  I don’t want them to lose their job, far from it. But considering it could cost me a days work to fix any damage, I’m within my right to try prevent it.
    • The SE22 Evri delivery family are lovely, and always say hello wherever we spot them in the area. We gave them a box of chocolates during Covid as they were working their socks off at Christmas
