Is there a reason why this site so often doesn't work properly - why these

Error

Unable to perform this task. A remote exception occurred.

messages are so common ?

Why things take so long to load and then time out ?

Could it be a problem at my end or do others experience the same ?

I find it so frustrating ,half the time it's pointless wasting time trying to look something up .

The whole public website system (at least) seems broken at the moment. Very long latencies, sometimes timeouts, in trying to access even the public root https://www.southwark.gov.uk or, if managing to get that far, any of the branches. Do Southwark maintain statistics of the system performance? Is it their own system, or outsourced?

ETA: Now running, even unto the Planning Register Search. Which then returns the "Unable to perform this task. A remote exception occurred." you mention, after submitting the search at https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/

I wonder who would be the appropriate person to ask about this ?

I find it so annoying ,it sort of teases you ,you think it's going to work ( and sometimes it does ! ) and then it doesn't .

Sorry ,not v good description .Don't know any technical terms ! Broken seems a good one though .

One of the things that drives me mad is that if you figure a way to sneak up on the site ( like entering the application number as opposed to clicking on a link ) you can sometimes squeeze some information out .

But only sometimes ,and I think a lot of stuff is archived .

    • Please be aware that there is a huge sheet of ice approx 12ft x 6ft on the road at the top end of Avondale Rise on the left hand side approaching Ivanhoe Road.  The council was told earlier this morning, but advised that, due to a reduced service, it is unlikely that grit /salt will be spread before Monday!  Several (thankfully minor) accidents have happened since this morning.  A resident has thoughtfully erected a temporary sign to advise traffic of the hazard, but bearing in mind that temperatures are due to fall to -4 over the weekend and this is on a bus route, please be very careful if driving on this road.
