Black kitten out and about

There's a very sweet little cat that's been hanging around our garden on Forest Hill Road for the past few days. Seems about 3-6 months old. Appears emaciated but seemingly has a grounding in domesticity though refuses to step inside the house, would rather sleep in the temporary bed we have made outside. Worried that it may have been abandoned, knocked on doors throughout the surrounding area. We are going to Celia Hammond today to check if it has a microchip. There is no collar. Please advise if yours.
