This personally was very sad news, my favourite author, and as many tributes have said, much more than just a 'spy novelist', he was a great storyteller and chronicler of post-war Britain, in particular Englishness and the decaying ruling class.

''The rats have taken over the ship''

Fascinating man who led a fascinating life.

Rest In Peace JLC...

There a programme on Radio 4 tomorrow at 20:00 about his life. I suppose deciding to become an Irish citizen was his best way of showing how much his disapproved of Brexit.

Yep, listened to it, he was definitely giving two fingers to Brexit.

And he was spot on about the difference between patriotism and nationalism...

    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
