sociable cycle ride Saturday June 2nd

Recommended Posts

This two-hour, easy-paced ride, using mostly quiet streets and paths, starts at 10am at Dulwich Clock Cafe in the middle of Dulwich Park, SE21 7BQ, and finishes at 12 noon in the same place.

There are some short stretches of busier road and also some hills, but the hills are short, and there is time built in to push your bike up these. allow time to walk these.

The route leads from Dulwich Park up to Horniman Museum, then over the hill to Sydenham Station and on to Cator Park where it joins National Route 21, aka the Waterlink Way, and follows this nearly to Catford. The Waterlink Way is lovely, miles of some of the nicest off-road path in south London, and should be in everyone's cycling repertoire. It's a little known gem. The ride comes back on quiet streets to Honor Oak then up and over the hill to return to Dulwich Park.

The route map is at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1X0v0PkV-RBf_5B-_-psG95-6V2I&ll=51.43914910000002%2C-0.053386700000089604&z=13. It looks very complicated to me but that's for the ride leaders to worry about.

These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn on behalf of Southwark Cyclists which is the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign. Everyone is welcome. Everything is free. You can text Bruce on 07729 279 945 or just turn up. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
