social cycle ride 10am Saturday June 23rd

Recommended Posts

This is part of southwark cyclists series of Healthy Rides. You don't need to be healthy (or unhealthy for that matter) to take part. They are open to everyone and completely free. Children are welcome with an adult in tow.

This ride starts at 10am in Peckham Square (next to Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse leisure centre. SE15 5JR)and ends in the same place at 12 noon.

It's called Seven Murals and a Windmill. This is a themed ride planned by Harry, who will be leading. The idea is to find 7 murals in the Brixton area, plus the windmill. Out via Burgess Park, Myatts Field and Loughborough Junction to Somerleyton Rd and the first mural. Then on to Brixton Mill with 2 more murals. Short hop to Strathleven Rd and the 4th Mural. Then via Ferndale to Brixton town centre and 3 more murals. Back by Overton Rd, Wyndham Rd and Burgess Park.

All in all 11 miles of flat riding. Full info on murals all over London is on http://www.londonmuralpreservationsociety.com. The windmill is Brixton Windmill which was 200 years old in 2016 and a picture is attached. The full story of the mill is here: http://www.brixtonwindmill.org/windmill. The annotated route map is here:

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
