The Bigger Picture film club will be showing ?The Big Sick? (2017) at 8pm on Thursday, 26 July 2018, at the Ivy House.

Written by its (loosely-based) real life protagonists (Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani) and starring one of them (Kumail Nanjiani), this tells of a fledgling Pakistani stand-up in America who has a relationship with a white woman (Zoe Kazan plays Emily), who he meets through an audience heckle in Chicago. He does not tell his immigrant Muslim family, who wish him to have an arranged marriage. When he admits to Emily these pressures (and that he cannot see a permanent relationship evolving), she leaves him. However, she then falls very seriously ill (the Big Sick of the title), and Kumail finds himself working with (and frequently against) her parents (the excellent Holly Hunter and Ray Romano) to support her as her conditions worsens.

Director: Michael Showalter

We say: It?s a ?Rom Com? which is really romantic and really funny. Which so many actually aren?t.

    • Thank you! She is both spayed and microchipped, and reported missing on Petlog and with the vets.   She normally never goes out the front, certainly for never more than 10-15 minutes, so this is definitely new territory for her. There is lots of dense foliage across the road so there are plenty of places she could be hiding if she is spooked, so we are hoping she will come back when she is calm. The weather isn't helping, she never goes out in the rain. Thank you again!
    • Hi, Have you been letting her out the front door onto the street or would this be a first & therefore unfamiliar with the area? Does she respond to a name & is she spayed & microchipped? Our team carry scanners on our daily routes & will of course be looking our for her. I hope you are reunited with her soon. If not already, notify your street & surrounding streets (find out if they have Whatsapp groups) Dox will print & deliver free missing posters https://www.doxdirect.com/help/free-missing-pet-posters/ Call her at dusk & dawn when street & foot traffic is at its lowest. • A slightly delayed review but another one to echo Niko's praises. I had an issue with a cistern that needed replacing and Niko was attentive and did a great job. He was very diligent, explained what he was doing and fixed issues from a previous plumber's work. I will definitely ask for his help again if I have any issues in the future.
    • In good condition.  The seal should be intact.  Thanks
