French MPs throw out proposal to audit their expenses

None of my business really - a matter for the French people.

I mention it only from the point of view that it is a bit rich for the lovely Mme Christine Legarde to tell the Greeks to tighten their belts etc when she has been used to a no-questions-asked annual allowance equivalent to ?60,000.

Leveson please note: France does not have a national press like the UK to expose such largesse.

Oh oh, this could be serious.

Italian Police Raid Barclays Over Rate-Fixing

http://news.sky.com/story/967142/italian-police-raid-barclays-over-rate-fixing

If the PIIGS can show Barclays and other banks have contributed to their nations' indebtedness by fixing Euribor rates, as they did with Libor, and sue them accordingly this could be explosive.

Everybody is already involved in the LIBOR case - the US (DoJ, SEC, CFTC), the European Commission, the Japanese, the Swiss, us Brits (the FSA and finally the SFO) and a whole bunch of other national regulators the world over. The Italians are just joining the party a little bit late.

    • I took it to mean that he was going to present all sides of the argument (for want of a better term) rather than just giving his own opinion. I didn't take it to mean that he was calling "his own views" balanced.
    • I just did this survey. There are a number of problems with it. For example, in at least two questions you have an option "other, please specify" but there is no way to specify what the "other" is. Also, you have several questions where if you have nothing appropriate to answer, you get a statement "this is a required question", or words to that effect, so you have to put in something like "nothing" in order to move on. Can I suggest that this is likely to confuse people so they just give up half way through? Maybe you should test it out on a few people before going "live" with it?
    • I went to Brockwell Lido on a hot day last summer to do some lengths. It was busy.  I kept getting other people's hair, which was floating around the pool, tangled in my hands. It was gross. I'm not sure if that was unusual, or if it's always like that on a hot day.
    • Didn't engage him in conversation but I think he was just 'collecting' for a 'charity' - without ID or anything else. Something to do with rehabilitation. They don't seem to bother with dusters. Which is probably a blessing.
