A point about applying for jobs when you don't know who it is you are applying to.

Hi. Sometimes I may apply for a job and in the description of the job the writer may say which company it is, so you can do a little research and at least know. I am, however, concerned about those who post job offers when we don't know who they are. Now one might suggest that we simply do not apply for such jobs which is a fair point. But some people including me are looking for a local part time job, are eager to try anything that we feel we may be right for.

Someone posted a job on here a while ago that sounded perfect for me. A personal type of helper kind of job; someone to help with Airbnb, eBay, and around the house. All very cool and relaxed. I applied not knowing who the person was or where they lived or anything. I am not complaining that I did not get a reply; I am sure the poster was inundated. I am asking what the Admin and others may feel is the security issue. I gave a lot of personal information and have no idea what happened with it. In these days of GDPR I am wondering if such posters should be asked to give more information. I did not even get an acknowledgement. Again, I am not too concerned, but I think there is a safety and security issue here that might be up for discussion and consideration. I think that the forum moderators might think about requesting such advertisers to give their details in their adverts. What do you folks think? (And no, being a Humanist Funeral Celebrant is not a full time job!)

Hi

We could add a new rule/request that all job ads give the employers' details but that will not solve the issue. A fraudulent person could easily put up fake details, the moderators look at the advert and think, that's fine.

The issue is that people freely give out personal information which we would not recommend, I would suggest that they start a conversation (by PM, email, face to face etc) so they can be sure they know who it is, then they can decide whether they send personal info. Unfortunately the forum's not able to screen advertisers or the legitimacy of information posted.

    • The end of a decade and a half of gaslighting, they must be exhausted. Oh boy, are we going to hear some coercive BS in the next 6 weeks. For some reason they don’t seem to be boasting about how well we are doing in education, crime and policing, fishing, agriculture, health, prisons, trade, trade agreements, immigration, transportation, utilities (including water), amongst other things. They seem to be focussing on exporting individual ‘illegal’ immigrants to Africa for more than it costs to take a journey into space. And rainbow-coloured lanyards for use within the civil service. I wonder why?🤔
    • If you have a campervan (windows all round, seats in) they’re treated just like cars - come unannounced as often as you need. So I think it’s a way to avoid commercial interests’ abuse of the service. Imagine if you provided a local clearance service, you could empty peoples gardens and houses and take it straight to the dump and have nothing to pay.

    • If you can access Facebook, there are many groups on there for different things. it may be helpful searching for groups on there. i joined a few groups on there myself which helped me with my health issues. it was these groups that made me realise I wasn’t the only one suffering with side effects & some women were worse off than me. hope that helps
