I hope everyone's going to get cross about this:

http://www.southlondon-today.co.uk/news.cfm?id=39647&headline=%E2%80%98Rent%20hike%20will%20be%20a%20disaster%E2%80%99

Apparently landlords of Brixton Village (one of the best things to happen to South London for some time) want to hike the rents already.

It was probably inevitable it would turn into Borough Market, but surely not this fast?

It looked suitably busy & vibrant indeed. It's hard to get the balance right in any of these places though. And the standard has moved up somewhat, though I do like some of the madder looking places too ( like the ju-ju/spiritual shop ) it adds to the overall experience. What you don't want is the Hoxton/Portabello thing happening there with "safe-but-hip" Byron burger et al blah blah blah moving in. It's a homogenous plateau from there on in (except for the landlords of course )

Other things are moving along in the area too, with three new markets opening in Station Rd.

Brixton Friday food market starts Nov 4th.

Brixton Flea market will be on the 1st saturday of each month starts Nov 5th.

Brixton Vintage & Retro market on the 3rd saturday of each month starts Nov 19th.

See here for other south-london-guff & not a bad little paper to boot.

    • Well thanks for enriching the conversation.  Would you chuck Fah - rage in too for his tax avoidance on his property?   I expect it was lead story on Jeremy Vine too.  Doesn't make it a story, just a bit more of BBC tabloid style sensationalism.  There are numerous real news stories in the UK and across the world.  And now, apt for Halloween, you have summoned up the ghost of Louisa. So for the third time, will you now eat humble pie?
