email format query

I'm engaged in an email exchange and sometimes receive emails with each line preceeded by > .

I'm puzzeled by this .Can some kind person explain why it happens ?

It?s a prefix character showing that the text has been replied to or forwarded. Whoever is replying has set their email client up to add a prefix to the original text.

Thank you .So I'm guessing it indicates a forwarded email .

Would the prefixes occur if the email was composed on a phone and then forwarded to the senders own email on a laptop ? For ease of editing or something ?

In my world it's an indicator of quoting, just as immediately above; the number of > signs showing the level of nesting of quotation. For more detail see eg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posting_style#Quoted_line_prefix, starting at "Quoted line prefix".

If your correspondent hasn't prefixed it with an attribution line, possibly they've done a copy and paste from somewhere.

Any advice on how to target my tapping on my new Amazon Fire ? Or is it designed for young people with slender fingers ? Should I get one of those little stick/pencil type things I've seen ?

I don't have a tablet, but I used to use one of those stick things on my mobile until my daughter unkindly laughed at me.

I found that once I got used to it, using my ancient huge fingers on the tiny keyboard was actually quite easy :))
