Was thinking today about my son starting school next week. He's in reception, so they delay it until next week. Started to get emotional after we tried on his uniform the other night. What i think as well is that the hard part is that at nursery you get to take them right in, and then you walk away from them. But with school you only get to go to the gate, then they have to walk away from you to an environment you're not really allowed in. Talk about a brutal metaphor:)

My son is fairly sensitive to new unknown things (like all kids tho'he definitely wears his heart on his sleeve). When he started reception the teachers were very happy for me to walk into class with him and then say goodbye - other parents did too, bit chaotic but set the kids up better for the day... He's year 2 now and skipped in without looking back yesterday. Good luck next week, it really is an emotional time x

    • Typically the way 'family run businesses' operate is either to have family members continue the business, or to sell on, either as a site (in this instance) or as a going concern. Either which way this is the way the owners create a 'pension' from the business. The number of suggestions as to alternatives makes me feel that the market for small repairing garages locally may be well served, so selling on the site makes the best financial sense for the owners. It's a sign not of the times but of normal business realities.
    • I agree it's a shame, but it is not a "sign of the times", unless you think that up to now people have never grown older and retired!
