Elphinstone's Army
Has anyone successfully papered a wall with old newspapers, without them turning brown, peeling, whatever? We want to try this, being inspired by Dove Cottage, the construct of newspaper and lime washed walls obviously different to todays. All helpful comments welcome, thank you ! Sue
Presumably you would have to seal them with something. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/205101-walls-as-dove-cottage/#findComment-1280924 Share on other sites
Elphinstone's Army
Yes Sue, we would. I have attempted pasting over different surfaces then sealing after which the paper turns brown. I don't know if this is seeping through or the polyurethane coating. What a mess, then had to scrape it all off. Sometimes, these conceits are just not worth the effort. Captain Marvel
What papers will you use? The editorials of the Express and Mail might make interesting reading in years to come.Or will you use themes? problem pages or horse racing perhaps...The FT could add a nice warm glow to any dark corner Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/205101-walls-as-dove-cottage/#findComment-1280953 Share on other sites

I imagine this is much the same? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/205101-walls-as-dove-cottage/#findComment-1281077 Share on other sites

Sue
I found loads of useful stuff online, depends on what search words you use, but this might be helpful:https://homeguides.sfgate.com/hang-newspaper-walls-27060.htmlI'm interested because I want to use decoupage on some old furniture I have - never tried before. So let me know how you get on with the newspapers on walls! mancity68
Many years ago I came home in the hols from Uni to find my Dad had used all my old copies of Sounds to wallpaper the inside of the garage. That was in the late 1980s and they are still readable now (and not overly brown). God knows what he used, can't believe it was much more than wallpaper paste.Amazing to go in there now and read those old articles but I was furious at the time.
