Any recommendations for a good restaurant for New Year's Eve?

We're looking to go for an earlyish meal and then go on somewhere else, so we're not in search of a place with a NYE "package" - just somewhere with good (not very expensive) meal with atmosphere. Most styles of cooking are fine and anywhere in the City or central/north London would be convenient. Thanks...

BJL doesn't appear to be looking for a local restaurant, judging by the phrase "anywhere in the City or central/north London would be convenient" :)

So I guess it would be shunted off the local businesses thread PDQ ....

Try Soho Japan.

It's essentially an old pub in Fitzrovia made into a Japanese restaurant. Our friend was over from Tokyo this week and she took us there for lunch.

It's all very good (especially the sushi... in fact I loved the food all round) and unlike some Japanese places it's also very relaxed, perfect for a NYE kickoff.

As an added bonus, the sushi chef looks just like Mr Miyagi from The Karate Kid.

(which is nice)

There's a side dish of Spinach with sesame paste and seeds that i'm still dreaming of.

Oh god, see what you've done. Now i'm having reoccurring food fantasies at 8:30 am.

    • Our refuse collectors leave rubbish all the way down the hill after they have emptied the bins. Everywhere you go you see rubbish everywhere. On some days walking through the high street in Peckham can be truly depressing with plastic bags and paper blowing around everywhere, Peckham and other streets deserve better than this Council complacency. I'm sure it wasn't so bad back in the day. Councils everywhere, faced with cuts in revenue, must have decided a long time ago  that litter picking  and rubbish collection were not so important. I think a clean, tidy environment makes everyone feel better about their home environment. Btw, I'm ok with a few weeds. They are just wild flowers in an inconvenient place.
