social cycle ride 10am Saturday December 1st

This easy-paced, circular, two-hour ride leaves Dulwich Clock Cafe in Dulwich Park SE21 7BQ at 10am. It will be taking quiet roads and paths with a few hills. Hills are fairly unavoidable because Dulwich Park is half-way up one and if you go anywhere you necessarily go down (or up)

This one starts by going down to Peckham Rye Park, and then across to Nunhead Cemetery, over the top of Telegraph Hill and down to join Waterlink Way (Nat Route 21) at Brookmill Park. There follows a lovely scenic cycle ride which skirts Lewisham Leisure Centre, and follows Deptford Creek and the Ravensbourne to Ladywell Fields, Blythe Hill Park, Honor Oak and back to Dulwich Park.

In Ladywell Fields cyclists will use the infamous spiral ramp over the railway. It can be done with a very low gear and a clear run. If not there's no shame in pushing up this and a few other short steep bits. Time permitting the group can stop at Catford Bridge Station to look at the south end of the new Catford Green development with landscaping along the Ravensbourne River. The route is here:

These weekly rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which is a pan-London organisation which campaigns for safer roads for cyclists. Our website is here: https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk and you can contact us here: [email protected]. Nothing we do costs anything and everyone is welcome. Children should bring an adult.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
