Where to get the cheapest nappies?

Hi everyone, im due in 6 weeks and thought it was about time to have a look at nappies! I am completly confused about nappies size as they come up in 1,2 and 3? Im looking for the best deal really when it comes to nappies and wipes (money is tight...) I was hoping someone could advise me on this? :) thank you! nabz

The big Asda on old Kent road sell big boxes of all the different brands. They often have special offers as well, so you just work out what's the best deal each time. Also, Lidl's own brand has good reviews, although I haven't tried them.

Buy second hand reusebles?

For cheap wipes try tesco basics - about 36p a packet ATM

ATM amazon - 100 pampers simply dry for ?13 - 13p per nappy

Tesco 78 huggies super dry ?9 - 12p per Nappy ( on offer)

Tesco own brand currently 14p per nappy

Tesco value wipes are good, but avoid the nappies

Nappy prices vary a lot, lots of offers

Check thd cheapest price per nappy then look to better it

I would avoid buying too many initially as different brands seem to suit different babies. Also bigger babies may not be in the newborn size for long. My 10 wk old lasted about a week but my toddler was in them for a few months. The sizes are based on weight but loosely I've found with my big baby boy. We've always used Sainsburys eco nappies and basic wipes- they're fairly cheap and that's where we do our shopping so no separate trips. Definitely stock up when there's an event though it's a pain storing them. We've recently tried Asda nappies which are better than Sainsburys for 2nd baby so I'l prob if OH to pick some up on the way home from work. I rate them more than Pampers which I always think smell odd... Hope this is helpful- good luck!

Toujours from lidl are good for "containment", they are ?5.19 for 54 nappies. It's true different brands suit different babies, and the wrong type can be a false economy if they leak all the time mounting up laundry and having to chuck out stained vests all the time.

Only problem with the lidl nappies is that they have a 'mumsnet recommendation' on the packing..... (I read about them here, non a mumsnet fan....)

have heard very good things about lidl 'toujours' as others have mentioned - though have not yet tried them.

Whatever nappy you buy, it's possible to save money by buying in bulk from sainsburys's etc (i.e 1 pack is 8 quid but if you buy 2 it's 2 packs for 12 quid or whatever) but I would also say that it's a good idea not to buy anything like nappies or wipes in bulk ahead of having your baby as if you find that a particular brand doesn't seem to fit your baby well, or they get nappy rash from a particular nappy or wipe, it's a bugger if you've bought hundreds. Find out what works for your baby before buying in bulk!

Reusable nappies and wipes really do save you money in the long term...the nappy lady needs to come forth with the stats though! They are an outlay to begin with but there is a thriving second hand market - on here and other facebook and yahoo forums.

Agree with snowboarder - if you really want to save money go reusable. You can pick up some bargain priced kits 2nd hand (and 2nd hand ones tend to be better as they're more absorbant)... my house is stocked full ready for my new arrival in a couple of weeks time.

In terms of disposables I haven't ever used very many, but found the Sainsbury's own brand ones pretty good value and equally as good as the "big" brands, if not better!

Asda are very good value, 2 double packs for ?10, literally half the price of Pampers, even if they're on offer. But second everyone who says not to get too many to begin with. I had Huggies when my daughter was born as my sister had recommended them, but as she grew I tried different brands and like Asda Active Fit the best for daytime. Wipes I've always bought Sainsburys/Boots/Asda own brand unfragranced wipes when on offer, never had a bad reaction to any.

I wish we had tried reusables but I found the first few weeks so crazy that doing masses of washing and drying of nappies was more than I could contend with (midwinter and no tumble drier) and just stuck with disposables.

Particularly economical reuseables are the Flip and even cheaper Econobum system, you can probably set yourself up for at least day use for about ?100 if you're savvy and get offers etc. But second the importance of trialling one at a time as certain cloth nappies suit certain bottoms/houses/drying situations!
