I go passed the adventure playground stream in Peckham Rye Park daily and it really sticks in my claw that this piece of work should have been allowed to be completed without someone stepping in to remedy the obvious error during construction.

I have read that the adventure playground project cost 40,000 of public money and I don't think it should be allowed to be let go.

I would like to know who is responsible for the blunder and whether they have been paid and when the error will be rectified. If anyone else feels strongly enough, I would be glad to hear from you with a view to getting some information from our councillors.

I think it very important that contractors are held accountable when they are offered publicly funded projects

pipsky2008,

I think that you probably read some of what I posted on this subject under 'Peckham Rye One O' Clock Club'.

There were a lot of mixed messages about this issue, some people blamed the architects and others the contractors; my view is that Southwark council should have ensured that this scheme was completed in working order and represented good value for OUR MONEY.

It is interesting to note that the designers, EGER Architects, no longer have any reference to this project on their website - I wonder why? My view is that ever if you take this matter up with the two councillors that had their photos taken for the opening of the playground (can't remember their names) you would'nt get very far.

I was at the One O' Clock with my Grandson today and in spite for the good work of the fine staff there it is beginning to get to look neglected. All of the shutters were closed on the windows, because there was a break in and the keys were stolen and some of the fluorescent lights were out and needed fixing. Sadly, I was told that no funding was available to remedy either and yet just outside is that glaring waste of money - the uphill play river. Our money up the drain!

Regards.

    • Awful. A Google search came up with this, but will he check his office email over Christmas? Maybe worth also contacting local councillor? 'To contact Southern Housing's CEO, Paul Hackett, you can try his direct email, [email protected], or use the general contact email [email protected], as well as calling their main number, 0300 303 1066, for general inquiries or to be directed to the executive level.' Also, from the website: https://www.southernhousing.org.uk/latest-news/2025/contacting-us-over-the-festive-period   'Contacting us about an emergency? If you have an emergency outside of the above times over the festive period, such as severe flooding, an uncontainable leak, gas leak, complete electrical failure or lift breakdown, please call us on 0300 303 1066' I hope it is sorted out soon.

    • Sorry but I think it's best if people just check things for themselves when they buy things. In three shops/restaurants (from some years back) I just avoid the places concerned, as in all three  cases I was pretty sure it wasn't a genuine mistake, and in one place  it happened more than once and usually late at night.
    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
