Santa was kind and delivered an iPad this year. I'm preparing for a hospital stay and would like to have some tv/movies downloaded to watch just in case the wifi at Kings is unreliable.

Being a bit of an Apple novice, I'm not sure whether there are options other than iTunes available to me? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks

To actually buy and download them, I think it's just iTunes. The various TV catchups are all streaming only.

If I'm going for a flight or somewhere without wifi, I tend to just rip a DVD or boxset and load them on. I use Handbrake, a free Mac app, to get them to the right format and then load them onto the iPad.

A few good books might be worth loading on too - and perhaps some silly games to waste time like Mahjong/Solitaire etc

Hope that you're not in for too long and that you get well soon.

Download an app called AV Player, enabling you to playback most video file types- apple restricts this to only one or two through their video apps. Once you have this you will be able to put pretty much any type of video format directly on to the app which means you can put download films not only from the itunes site, which gets expensive if you are looking to get a good few. Utorrent filesharing software, which you can download by typing it into google allows you to download films and programmes for free, as someone who is absolutely against illegal downloading I would never do this but it might work for you.

All the best.

    • There are planes going to more than one London airport. It's been discussed on here before, but I can't remember the exact details. Also if memory serves it depends on the prevailing wind exactly what route the planes take on a particular day, but I may be wrong there. Or maybe they vary the route so the same people don't get the noise each time? I moved here (also North Cross Road area) over thirty years ago and the plane noise has always been bad. I don't think it's got any worse, though it may have done. It has always started around 5am or a bit earlier ( on the days the planes take that route, I suppose?) Concord used to fly over around 5pm each day. That was excellent. It always seemed to be directly over my house, but due to the height of planes I guess many people think they are directly over their house! Triple glazing in my bedroom has helped, but not completely,  though it wasn't installed for that reason.
