Advanced Notification of Secondary School Place for Sept 2012

My year 6 child came home from school yesterday and told me that a girl in her year (whose father is C of E clergy) announced at school yesterday that she has received a letter from St Saviour's and St Olave's confirming she does have a place at the school for Sept 2012.

Meanwhile the rest of us have to wait until 01 March to hear what school we have been allocated.

Am I missing some crucial info that would make this situation seem a lot fairer than it seems?

I maybe wrong but I have heard somewhere that statemented or children that have other special needs are told in advance.

The rest of us have to wait until early March.

Not sure that is the only case, dollydaydream. I heard of a child in another suburb who has already been told he has a place at a grammar school in Kent. Also, private schools announce places in February I think.
