social cycle ride Saturday Jan 12th

This ride starts at 10am from Canada Water library (Deal Porter Square, opposite the station, SE16 7AR) and heads immediately for the station. The plan is to catch the Overground to Sydenham -- the 10.08 to be precise though how precise they will actually be who knows.

Riders can join the ride at Sydenham Overground Station at 10.25am which might be easier if you are coming from East Dulwich or Peckham Rye. All these trains are said to be running. Bitter experience has taught me to check before planning to use the Overground. Though these things can change.

The group will ride down to Bells Green and join the Waterlink Way (Nat Route 21). They will follow this via Ladywell Fields and Brookmill Park until it meets Quietway 1. Then along Q1 through Deptford to Folkestone Gardens. From there go through Deptford Park, along Surrey Canal Linear Path and past Greenland Dock for 12 noon arrival at Canada Water.

It's an easy, flat, 1.5 hour ride with lots of excellent off road paths. Everyone is welcome. These rides are organised by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. We are the borough branch of the London Cycling Campaign which campaigns for safer cycling in London. Everything we do is free and open to all. You don't need to join anything or live anywhere in particular. The route map is at https://goo.gl/4DQ9Tb. You will need an Oyster or contactless card (fare ?1.50).

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
