Dear Bookgroup,

I am going to jump a head and suggest a book for our next meeting in December.

It's The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro. It's a fantastic book, I couldn't put down. Wonderful stories of ogres pixies and dragons, King Arthur and a knight Sir Gawain, Merlin the wizard and warriors.

Of course this is only a suggestion and we can be open to other books.

We normally have an end of year meal and I would like to this year but please let me know how you feel about it, probably in Tandoori Night or the Chinese in Lordship Lane,

both excellent restaurants.

So please let me know about both and especially the meal.

Dear book group,

I am going to jump ahead again and suggest another book. Some of you will remember Evie Wyld and her first book After The Fire, A Still Small Voice:

https://www.theguardian.com/.../after-the-fire-still...

which she came to discuss.

And All the Birds, Singing which we read and Evie came to a group meeting:

https://www.theguardian.com/.../evie-wyld-birds-singing...

And her third book is out now, the Bass Rock:

https://www.theguardian.com/.../the-bass-rock-by-evie...

If we read this she will join in one of our zoom meetings so keep it in mind.

It doesn?t have to be our next book but if no one has anything desperate to read we could read it for our February or March book.

Look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting,

Chick.

Hi

Just a reminder that we meet this Wednesday on zoom at the earlier time of 7.00pm.

I will be showing a film Gravity upstairs in the Clockhouse on Friday 4th February at 8.00pm.

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2013/nov/07/gravity-review

Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks again to Sahar for providing the link, I'll send it on Tuesday.

All the best,

Chick

PS any thoughts on my last book suggestion?

Dear book group,

Evie Wyld will be joining us 30th March.

She has a colourful past growing up Australia in a sugar cane farm. Her English family were quite posh living I think in Salisbury or somewhere like that in complete contrast to her Australian family.

Do try and join, this will be good meeting.

    • I'd rather go to actual local Safer Neighbourhood Team meetings and see the whites of their eyes.  Ours in Peckham Rye Park ward (maps of areas the ward covers are on the police website; no idea about the new one!) used to be very well attended, but sadly now not so.  The local police of the SNT seem to change far too regularly so they never have a chance to really know the area and the people.  And the last meeting, held at the Tenants Hall of Brenchley Gardens (so right on the edge of the geographical area), was held with one day's notice.  Not good.
    • Friends of Peckham Rye Park sent emails to its members (do join if you can; it's useful) saying a few nights ago a fire was started on the SE22 side of the park by kids with fireworks.  Horrific.
