Pugwash
As someone who has been deaf since the age of 2 years (through measles) I am well adapted to hearing loss and have tried to encourage others with recent loss to make the most of aids and adaptations which can improve their well being. If there is poor attendance at this course it will need to close. Please inform your friends and relatives. trinidad
I asked my ED GP to have my hearing tested. I received an appointment letter from Guys hospital weeks after, offering me a hearing test at the end of March this year :( not impressed Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/215602-concerned-about-hearing-loss/#findComment-1309172 Share on other sites
Pugwash
Kings College Hospital Audiology dept used to do all my testing and hearing aid supplies but some years ago opted out this service and I am now under 'In Health' and attending the audiology clinic in Chadwick Road. I have to have a GP letter re referring me to In Health every 3 years before I can be retested and usually get an appointment within a month. Last time my aid broke down, I was given an appointment within 3 days as I was prepared to go to an emergency clinic in Streatham on a Sunday. Huggers
hi all, I was invited onto this trial as I was already under the audiology care of the Guys who are leaders in the field. I think they are also looking at tinnitus sufferers. They were interested in more people for the trial.I have been on it for about six months. I have state of the art hearing aids, with inner ear mics and with mobile phone control. The mobile phone also feeds back info to the trial, and you undergo tests using the phone- memory tests, identifying words with background static going on etc.You get to keep the hearing aids, but the department wont replace them If lost or outlive their life. The trial is called EVOTION ProjectAdult Audiology Centre3rd Floor, Southwark WingGuy?s HospitalGreat Maze PondLondon SE1 9RT Main switchboard: 020 7188 7188 but pm me for the email address. OutOfFocus
I went to the meeting today - was a very useful start. I think it would have been particularly useful before I started with Hearing aids, or if my Dr was trying to persuade me not to go for a test (one did a few years back).I am also on the Guy's trial. The benefit I see in the phone is you adjust the volume on each side separately. Useful for me in singing situations where I want to hear more or less of another part. I am happy to share my experience, either at the group or via PM.Edited to add some detail.
