I've just got a parking fine but I think I have grounds to appeal as i paid but need to know how to go about it.

I parked in Wandsworth and phoned the number to pay by credit card. They recognised my phone number and said that i have now paid for my parking and when I want to stop it to phone the number again. They didn't mentioned my registration number in the recorded message.

At 5.30 (which is the end of the parking time) I received a text saying that my credit had been stopped. In the text it did say the reg number. It was the reg number of our courtesy car that we had in December. I parked in Camden and registered it then.

I didn't realise that the same parking people were involved and as they didn't mention my reg number I didn't realise that it wasn't my car that was registered (if that makes sense).

I think i have a case - do you? and if so how do i go about arguing my case?

Many thanks in advance

As its probably a new or at least fairly new problem you might be able to argue that they didn't make it clear what Car you had paid for. Me ? I am afraid if I was betting I'd bet on it being upheld , but try if you have the time and patience! I'm sure many would be grateful if you win.

I got fined because it was a hot day and my ticket fell off the windscreen onto the floor of the car. I won but it wasn't easy!

With these phone systems they recognise you by your mobile no, noally when I use them they refer to my car reg. and ask me to confirm if the pmt is for that car or an alternative car (at which point they'll ask for the teg of your alternative car).

If it's windy or busy nearby sometimes you cannot hear the automated phone service, this may be your only possible defence.

    • I don't know how it works now but my late parents had little money when they were retired (just state pension and they rented their flat) and they used to take their cat to the Blue Cross (In Victoria if I remember correctly) where treatment was free for those who could'nt afford a private vet. I sincerely hope similar is available still because for many elderly their pet is their main source of comfort and company.
    • In a couple of places locally, I have come across this. I am fairly sure that they attempt to do the bill in their head. If you just say , “no, I think it’s x” they start again and get to an agreeable number, or find a calculator. I don’t think it’s a malicious attempt to swindle people. Just not great arithmetic.
    • There are excellent charities like the Greenwich Wildlife Network who will help if you report any concerns with local wildlife. Foxes are wonderful creatures who had been forced into our town and cities and are just doing their best to survive, we should take care of them when we can.
    • Like I thought… prob like that for most of the day.. especially after people had walked their dogs, with friends, relatives  kids…
