This is part of our series of Saturday morning two-hour, easy-paced rides -- as flat and off-road as we can make them. They are suitable for children (with accompanying adult) and complete beginners. These rides are a good way to learn safe routes around Southwark and the neighbouring boroughs.

This ride starts in Peckham Square at 10am and ends at 12 noon in the same place. The Square is the spot between Peckham Library and Peckham Pulse Leisure Centre. If you work on post codes then SE15 5JR should find it. A picture of the Arch is attached. Saturday is forecast to be positively spring-like with a high of 14C though all these things can change.

The route is a loop south and west to include as many parks as possible, plus Herne Hill Velodrome. Starting in Peckham Sq it carries on to Peckham Rye Park, then Dulwich Park (unavoidable slope, long but not steep) Herne Hill Velodrome, then Brockwell Park, Ruskin Park, Warwick Gardens (by now we are coming back downhill, to Peckham Square. Map at http://goo.gl/maps/hFFNL. Lots to see and the Velodrome is always fascinating.

These rides are run by Bruce Lynn and friends on behalf of Southwark Cyclists. Like everything we do they are free and open to all. If anyone tries to tell you that they are not free or are Southwark-only, smile calmly and back away. For further info text Bruce on 07729 279 945, email [email protected] (slow method) or just turn up.

    • As I understand it Charlie Smith did put himself forward for selection in GG but Labour members chose someone else to represent them, Liam McGrath https://southwarklabour.com/our-candidates/   It'll be interesting to see if there are other defections - surely the Greens want a drip, drip, drip of news from now to May suggesting the momentum is with them.
    • Thanks for your feedback - we always appreciate hearing from members about their experience. The pool temperature at JAGS Sports Club is maintained at 29oC, in line with industry guidelines for mixed-use pools.  This temperature has been designed to balance comfort for lane swimmers and families. Air temperature is also monitored regularly to ensure a comfortable environment for swimmers, spectators and staff. The shower Temperature Mixing Valves (TMVs) were changed in December to improve consistency, and we hope this has made a noticeable difference. If you would like to discuss your experience in more detail, please contact us directly at [email protected] or 020 8613 6500 and we'll be really happy to help.
    • One wonders if he would have defected if he had, ahem, held on to the leadership of Southwark and whether he felt that "Labour are no longer the vehicle for social justice" during his leadership election........my how quickly things change in the thoughts of a politician 😉 I think this sums things up quite nicely: A senior Southwark Labour spokesperson hit back: “Local residents can draw their own conclusions about Cllr McAsh’s swift move from Labour leadership hopeful to the Green Party, after he didn’t get his own way. While he’s thinking about his own career, Southwark Labour are delivering for residents.” One wonders if he will stand as a Green candidate in Goose Green.
    • No doubt if he determines to stand for a ward he will enlighten us - at least his track record is one of using this site to communicate (inter alia). I would suspect that (1) his personal views on traffic will have remained consistent but that (2) his views on local democracy and proper consultation will have as well.
