I have read that there was a scheme where residents in the East Dulwich Ward could apply for Ground Anchors to be installed for free to help prevent theft. Is this scheme still in place? I know it was introduced by James Barber a couple of years back but haven't found any recent information regarding this.

If they want it they'll take it. We have had several stolen - teams of 4 with battery powered angle grinders, knives and hammers.

Best advice I can offer is either to keep it in a garage, or ride something nobody wants. Nobody has ever tried to steal my 2006 Hornet (maybe due to the Honda HISS system) even though it lived on the street for 10 years, often unlocked. However, anything remotely "nice" will attract a LOT of attention.

I have a ground anchor, mammoth chain, and a ?200 alarmed granit disclock, all in about ?500 of security as it has to live outside. Before the disclock someone had a go with boltcutters but were interrupted by my wife.

What rcmaf says sums it up though, re ride something they don't want. It shouldn't be that that is a factor when choosing a bike but in the real world it it.

Also, put a cover on it. Out of sight etc.

Although I can afford a garage, I live on an estate where there was a motorcycle parking bay put in place but nowhere to lock it. So I applied successfully for the Cleaner Greener Safer award for a couple of secure rails and ground anchors to be installed at these bike parks, so bikers could lock their bikes to the rails and/or ground anchors by chains or D-locks. Depending upon where you live, there are a few bike parks around, and another one is due to go in the road opposite North Cross Road - because that excellent bike park gets closed out on Saturdays when the market is there. I raised this as an issue and apparently (due to motorcycle thefts in all areas) the powers that be agreed with my point and are any day/month/year now, putting another bike park on the opposite road (is that Ashburnham). I do hope you manage to get a ground anchor, but if you live near a bike park, or an estate that has one, you could park it there. I wish you well fellow woman biker! x

    • Hello All, I'm after sun hats for adults some with physical and learning disabilities who enjoy outdoor activities with an organisation I volunteer with. If you have any caps, bucket hats, or aussie type sun hats that you no longer use or would like to pass on., any condition...I know some very appreciative peeps who would be very grateful. If you need info then please DM me. Thanks for reading.

    • The link below has further information suggesting that the shop demolition and square redevelopment is funded separately from the station upgrades, so will go ahead:   https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/peckham-rye-stations-step-free-upgrade-has-been-put-on-hold-82360/
