Stitch craftivism on plastic wipes: Friday's 9.30 - 11.30

I used wet wipes for about 6 years before realising that most were made out of plastic (i.e. polyester!) and will take 200 years to biodegrade. Most end up in London?s landfills (which will be full by 2026) and 1 in 3 gets flushed down the toilet ending up in our rivers and beaches? or forming 93% of London?s fatbergs.

Please join us in stitching messages into baby-wipes and sending them to our MP?s and supermarkets asking for action on plastic wipes.

All resources and toys for any children (there will be needles and scissors around!) will be provided. All welcome! You don?t need to know how to stitch, and the more hand-made the message the better! I can teach you some stitches and it?s really easy. All you need is a willingness to stitch messages for the environment.

Please join us!

Friday's 9.30 ? 11.30 at Aneto Caf? (58-60 East Dulwich Road, SE22 9AX) at the back.

#plastic free wipes

*We're using pre-consumer waste wipes, off cuts from a wipes factory which were going to be thrown away. Plus they didn't have any moisture on them, so it's a firmer surface. No actual wipes were purchased in this project!

Tomorrow morning... if anyone's around it would be lovely to have some company while stitching!

Great to meet you today and finding out about all the things you are trying to do for the environment.

The time just flew by and look forward to the next meetup.

Also I think you mentioned you had a Facebook page could you let me know the name of this please?

Thanks.

    • Loving the arm chair speculation on here  Blimey how long before this gets spun out to be a drug dealer welding a sawn off whilst driving away from a smash and grab at the coop cash machine flipped his car and landed on a bollard type post  Where's the green cross code man when you need him ?
    • If you haven't already watched this totally shocking docudrama on Channel 4 then make sure you watch it and tell everyone you know to watch It It lays bare the scandalous, harmful and lethal  (in some cases) behaviour of the water companies since privatisation.  I for one didn't realise that the water companies pay the regulator/environment agency to regulate them in one mega conflict of interest.   This is as shocking as the post office/postmasters scandal with even more far reaching consequences.
    • We have been going to Franklins for many years. On the whole we have found both the food and service extremely good,  and good value for money, but there have been one or two low points, including unfortunately a very expensive but disappointing  meal with friends which I was paying for. I think it may depend on who is in the kitchen. We had a really excellent meal from their Christmas menu before Christmas this year, which for the quality of the food and cooking we didn't feel was expensive at all. I think it would be a real shame if it was turned into a pub. It isn't that kind of place. That's why we like it.
